While the timing probably wasn’t the greatest, Carlos Condit has a surefire conversation-starter for cashiers, bank tellers and anyone else who needs to see his ID for the next few years.
This past month in UFC 195’s pay-per-vow headliner, Robbie Lawler (27-10 MMA, 12-4 UFC) defended his welterweight title for a second time after narrowly edging Condit (30-9 MMA, 7-5 UFC) via contentious split decision (47-48, 48-47, 48-47).
It was a thrilling and grueling affair, and the third round was the difference-maker. Two of the three cageside judges gave it to the champ (check out UFC 195’s Lawler-Condit scorecard), though most major media outlets scored it for Condit, according to MMADecisions.com.
It’s not clear if Condit, a former WEC champion and ex-UFC interim titleholder who’s faced the division’s absolute elite over the past few years, will get an immediate rematch. (He even hinted at a possible retirement.)
Regardless of his next bout, Condit will have a memento from the bout in his wallet. As he posted on Instagram, he had to take a photo for his new license just days after the Jan. 2 bout:
Condit still looks a little bruised and swollen from the bout, which earned “Fight of the Night” honors, in the photo. But hey – it could be worse. Just ask Matt Mitrione.
